Paralympic Sport Club Past Annual Events

The Paralympic Sport Club of NO hosts three major events every year. These events are free and open to the public.

Paralympic Experience

This event is held every year in September to promote wheelchair sports awareness. It begins with information concerning the rules  followed by opportunities for members of our community to participate in various wheelchair sports. This event allows those people with disabilities to learn about the various sports and opportunities and  provides an excellent training and awareness opportunity for healthcare professionals and other citizens without disabilities, by participating alongside other wheelchair athletes.

Christmas Classic Basketball Tournament & Field of Hope

This event showcases the gulf coast region's top wheelchair basketball teams in the Christmas Classic tournament while promoting wheelchair sports awareness in our area. A toys for tots give away is incorporated into the event to benefit children and youth who are disadvantaged. The annual awards banquet recognizes those members of the community who have made an positive impact throughout the year including volunteers, wheelchair athletes, and others.

Spring Health Fair

The nature of this event changes each year depending on the needs and interests of community. Each year, it incorporates wheelchair sports of some sort and information about fitness and healthy lifestyles. Events in the past have included a wheelchair softball tournament "Whack and Wheel" at Zephyr Stadium, a joint health fair with Dillard University, and many more. This year, the SMCL Paralympic Sport Club is joining in on the YMCA's Healthy Kids Day.
